The Wilmslow Academy
Background
The Wilmslow Academy has a proud history of serving the local community and providing children with a nurturing and ambitious learning environment.
In 2015, Dean Oaks Primary School expanded to become a two-form entry primary school, with all junior year groups having the capacity to accommodate up to 60 pupils. In 2016, Dean Oaks Primary School became The Wilmslow Academy and joined Aspire Multi Academy Trust, beginning an exciting new chapter in the school's development.
As part of Aspire Multi Academy Trust, we benefit from collaboration with a network of schools and educational specialists who support continual improvement and ensure that all pupils receive a high-quality education.
Today, The Wilmslow Academy is a popular and thriving school serving a diverse community. We are fortunate to have attractive, well-resourced learning environments and a dedicated staff team who are committed to helping every child succeed. We have high expectations in all areas of school life and work closely with parents and carers to create a positive and supportive learning experience for all children.
At the heart of our school is a strong sense of community. We pride ourselves on fostering positive relationships, celebrating diversity and ensuring that every child feels valued, respected and inspired to achieve their full potential.
The Wilmslow Academy Today
At The Wilmslow Academy, we are committed to providing every child with a high-quality education that enables them to thrive academically, socially and emotionally. Our curriculum is carefully designed to meet the needs of our pupils and is shaped by the best available educational research, evidence and professional expertise.
As part of Aspire Multi Academy Trust, we work closely with specialist leaders across the trust to continually develop and refine our curriculum. This collaboration ensures that our pupils benefit from expertise from a range of educational professionals whilst maintaining a curriculum that reflects the unique needs of our school community.
Our curriculum is strongly evidence-informed, drawing upon guidance from the Education Endowment Foundation (EEF) and wider educational research to ensure teaching approaches have the greatest possible impact on pupil learning. Through ongoing evaluation and collaboration, we strive to provide all pupils with the knowledge, skills and understanding they need to flourish.
Mathematics
Our mathematics curriculum is designed to develop confident, fluent and resilient mathematicians. Carefully sequenced to build knowledge over time, the curriculum has been developed in collaboration with Aspire Multi Academy Trust specialists and is informed by high-quality resources, including Oak National Academy. This approach ensures that pupils develop a deep understanding of mathematical concepts whilst building fluency, reasoning and problem-solving skills.
English
Our English curriculum is designed to foster a lifelong love of reading, writing and spoken language. In developing our curriculum, we have drawn upon a range of highly regarded educational approaches and resources, including Pie Corbett's Talk for Writing, IPEELL and the Herts for Learning English materials. These evidence-informed influences support children to become confident communicators, enthusiastic readers and successful writers.
Inclusion and SEND
Inclusion is at the heart of everything we do at The Wilmslow Academy. We are committed to ensuring that every child feels valued, supported and able to achieve their full potential.
Our curriculum has been carefully designed so that all pupils can access high-quality learning experiences. Within each subject, we have identified the ordinarily available inclusive practice that supports children with a range of needs and helps remove barriers to learning. These approaches form part of everyday classroom practice and ensure that all pupils are given the opportunity to make progress and experience success.
We recognise that every child is unique and work closely with families, specialist professionals and our Aspire Multi Academy Trust colleagues to provide the support, challenge and opportunities needed for children to thrive. Our aim is to create a learning environment where all pupils are able to flourish academically, socially and emotionally.
British Values
The Wilmslow Academy is proud to actively promote British Values throughout school life. Through our curriculum, assemblies, enrichment opportunities and wider school experiences, children develop an understanding of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty, mutual respect and tolerance of different faiths and beliefs.
These values are woven throughout school life and help prepare our pupils to become responsible, respectful and active citizens within modern Britain.
Rights Respecting School
At The Wilmslow Academy, we are proud to be a Rights Respecting School, where children's rights are at the heart of our ethos and everyday practice. Through our commitment to the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC), pupils develop an understanding of their rights and the responsibilities that accompany them.
Children are encouraged to show respect for themselves and others, value diversity and contribute positively to their community. This approach helps to create a culture where every child feels valued, listened to and empowered to make a difference.
Our Rights Respecting ethos underpins many aspects of school life, including pupil voice, inclusion, wellbeing and positive relationships, helping pupils become compassionate, responsible and active citizens.
Pupil Leadership
At The Wilmslow Academy, we believe that every child should have opportunities to develop leadership skills and contribute meaningfully to school life.
Our Year 6 pupils take on important leadership responsibilities as House Captains and Vice House Captains, representing their houses throughout the year and helping to promote teamwork, participation and school spirit.
We also have a team of School Games Makers who support the promotion of physical activity and sport across the school. These pupils lead activities, support sporting events and encourage participation among their peers.
In addition, our School Leadership Council provides children with a genuine voice in shaping school life. Each year group elects two representatives who meet regularly to discuss ideas, share feedback and contribute to decisions that help improve our school community. Through these leadership opportunities, pupils develop responsibility, communication skills, teamwork and citizenship.
Sport and Physical Education
We are proud holders of the Platinum School Games Mark, recognising our sustained commitment to high-quality physical education, competitive sport and active lifestyles.
We believe that participation in sport helps children develop confidence, resilience, teamwork and a lifelong appreciation of health and wellbeing. Through a wide range of sporting opportunities, we encourage every pupil to be active, challenge themselves and enjoy success.
Enrichment and Wider Opportunities
Learning at The Wilmslow Academy extends far beyond the classroom. Through our FRED Friday enrichment programme, all children have opportunities to explore new interests, develop talents and engage in exciting experiences that enhance their personal development.
FRED Friday promotes creativity, curiosity, teamwork, resilience and independence whilst allowing pupils to discover new skills and passions. These experiences enrich the wider curriculum and help children become confident, well-rounded individuals.
Our Commitment
At The Wilmslow Academy, we are proud of the education and opportunities we provide for our children. Through our evidence-informed curriculum, inclusive practices, strong partnerships within Aspire Multi Academy Trust, leadership opportunities, enrichment experiences and commitment to developing the whole child, we strive to ensure that every pupil is equipped with the knowledge, skills and character needed to thrive both now and in the future.
