Welcome to Year 2! 

Welcome back to school! We hope you enjoyed your Christmas holidays.

 Spring 2 2025 

 English

This half term we will be look at different versions of Little Red Riding Hood and coming up with our own endings. We will also be creating some instructions of how to navigate around Fairy Land. We will be continuing to develop our Phonics skills in our daily Little Wandle sessions and learning spelling rules to help further improve our writing.

   

Maths

We will be looking at dividing and how this relates to multiplication. We will move onto shape and compare 2D shapes as well as 3D shapes. We will revisit adding and subtracting two-digit numbers.

History

We will be answering the enquiry question, Why was a castle built in Beeston? We will be using timelines to find out when Beeston Castle was built, why it was built and what it was like to live in a castle

 

Science

We will continue to learn about materials and how they can be changed by bending, squashing, twisting and stretching.

D.T

This half term, the children will make model castles. We will learn different ways in which they can join materials together as well as how to make a structure strong.

RE

The children will explain Christian Easter celebrations, their significance, and the questions raised by the Easter story. The aim is to develop critical thinking and understanding of religious traditions.

Music

The children will learn to experiment with, create, select and combine sounds with my voice and untuned instruments.

Computing

The children will learn how to design a binary tree to sort pictures and to use the ‘search’ tool to find information in a database.

 P.S.H.E

In our ‘my happy mind’ lessons we will be completing the ‘appreciate’ module.

P.E. 

Children will learn how to demonstrate the school values during PE, e.g. how to listen to other people’s ideas as well as vocalising my own thoughts and how to use simple technical language to give constructive/useful feedback.

Please can children come to school in their correct PE uniform. PE days are not non-uniform days. No football shirts are allowed.

We have PE on Wednesday and Fridays.

Plain T-Shirt the colour of your child’s House (red, blue, yellow, green) - No football shirts

Plain tracksuit bottoms (light grey, dark grey, black)  

Plain hoodie / sweatshirt (light grey, dark grey, black)  

Shorts (light grey, dark grey, black)  

Suitable trainers 

Please make sure that everything is labelled clearly with their names.

Children with long hair should have it tied up please.

 

Homework

Maths and comprehension homework will be given out on a Wednesday and are to be handed back in by the following Monday.

Please make sure that all of your child's uniform is clearly labelled, especially their jumper and their coat as they are the items of clothing most likely to get lost! Thank you.
