Class 5 with Mrs Hamey & Mrs Church
Welcome to Year 2!
Welcome to Spring 1! We hope you had a wonderful holiday and we can't wait to get back to the classroom!
Find out more about what we are learning this half term below.
Spring 1 2026
English
In English, we will be exploring a traditional tale from a different perspective and innovating our own stories using this as inspiration. We will also be writing a set of instructions linked to our DT topic to make our own emergency vehicle. We will continue to build on our writers 'toolkit' and further develop ways to make our writing more interesting and varied whilst continuing to secure our basic sentence skills.
Maths
In Maths, we will continue to embed our foundation skills through 'mastering number' and the children will be starting to look at the 2, 5 and 10 times tables! Time to get practising on Times Tables Rockstars!
History
In History, we will be investigating the enquiry question, 'was the Titanic unsinkable?' We will be using a range of sources to help us explore this moment in time and what it can also reveal to us about what life was like during this period.
Science
In Science, we will be learning about healthy eating. The children will gain a greater understanding of the importance of exercise, healthy eating and hygiene and the impact this has on them growing into a healthy adult.
DT
In DT, we will be making a moving emergency vehicle using an axle to attach the wheels. We will follow a structured process of 'plan, make, evaluate' and highlight the importance of each of these stages in the creative process.
RE
Pupils will learn about Abraham's significance in Judaism, Christianity and Islam, comparing the similarities and differences.
P.S.H.E
We will be looking at different ways we can keep ourselves safe in various contexts. We will also have anti-bullying week and e-Safety day.
P.E.
On Thursdays, we will be developing our dance skills and our outside PE lesson on a Friday will be focused on movement, throwing and catching through 'Games'.
Please make sure all children have their correct PE uniform in school. No football shirts are allowed.
