Welcome from the Head of School

Dear Families,
Welcome to The Wilmslow Academy!
At our school, we are committed to providing every child with an exceptional education within a nurturing, inclusive and ambitious environment. We believe that every child can succeed, and we work in partnership with families to ensure that our pupils develop the knowledge, skills and character they need to thrive both now and in the future.
At the heart of our school are our four core values: Friendship, Respect, Excellence and Determination. Inspired by the Olympic and Paralympic values, these principles underpin everything we do. We encourage our pupils to build positive relationships, show kindness and respect to others, strive for excellence in all aspects of school life and demonstrate determination when faced with challenge. Through these values, we help children develop as confident, caring and resilient young people. Our school values of Friendship, Respect, Excellence and Determination are reflected in school materials.
Alongside our values, our learning behaviours support pupils to become successful, independent learners. We encourage children to be:
- Daring to be Different
- More Than Just Me
- Aiming High
- Thinking for Myself
- Sticking With It
- How Did I Do?
These behaviours promote curiosity, resilience, independence and reflection, helping our pupils to embrace challenge, learn from mistakes and take pride in their achievements. We want our children to leave us with not only strong academic foundations, but also the confidence and mindset to continue learning throughout their lives.
Academic excellence remains a key priority. We place a strong emphasis on developing secure foundational knowledge and skills in reading, writing and mathematics, ensuring that all pupils, particularly those who may face disadvantage, leave us at the end of Key Stage 2 well prepared for the next stage of their education. Through a carefully designed curriculum, expert teaching and targeted support, we strive to ensure that every child achieves their full potential.
As part of the Aspire Educational Trust, we are committed to being a research-informed and evidence-based school. Our teaching approaches, curriculum design and school improvement priorities are shaped by the best available educational research, ensuring that decisions are grounded in evidence and focused on securing the greatest impact for pupils. Through our direct links with the Aspire Research School, staff engage with current educational research, collaborate with colleagues across the trust and continually refine their practice. This commitment to professional learning enables us to provide high-quality teaching and learning experiences that help every child achieve success.
Equally important is our commitment to personal development. We highly value the wide range of opportunities that help children discover new interests, develop talents and broaden their experiences. We know that personal development and academic attainment go hand in hand, and therefore place significant importance on providing high-quality enrichment opportunities both within and beyond the classroom.
A key part of our enrichment offer is ensuring equitable access to wider opportunities and actively working to remove barriers to participation. We want every child to benefit from cultural experiences, leadership opportunities, sporting activities, educational visits, performance opportunities and community engagement, regardless of their background or circumstances. By ensuring that all pupils can access these experiences, we help them develop the confidence, knowledge and skills needed to flourish in modern society.
We are proud of our school community and the positive relationships that exist between pupils, staff, families and the wider community. Together, we create an environment where children feel safe, valued and inspired to achieve their very best.
By combining our strong values, ambitious curriculum, research-informed practice and rich programme of personal development opportunities, we strive to ensure that every child leaves The Wilmslow Academy as a knowledgeable, confident and compassionate young person, ready for the next stage of their education and beyond.
Thank you for taking the time to learn more about our school. We look forward to working with you and supporting your child throughout their journey at The Wilmslow Academy.
Warm regards,
Charlotte Johnson
