Welcome to Class 4, Year One!
We hope you have had a lovely break. Below you will find all the information regarding what we will be learning in Autumn Term One. If you have any questions please feel free to contact me.

Tuesday 2nd September - School reopens
Monday 8th September - New to Year One Parents meeting 5pm.
Thursday 23rd October - School closes for the Autumn half term holidays.
In English, we will read and share lots of new texts. We will be reading our focus text ‘Harry the Happy Mouse’ by Janelle N G K. We will write simple sentences whilst ensuring we use capital letters, finger spaces and full stops. In phonics we will be learning new sounds and how to use sound buttons to identify the sounds that we know.
In Maths, we will begin the year by looking at numbers to 100. We will be ensuring that the children’s knowledge of these numbers is secure through the five principles of counting. We will spend time ensuring that the numbers are correctly formed and can be sequenced correctly with problem solving and reasoning elements.
In Phonics, we will continue to use Little Wandle, as well as having our guided reading sessions.
In Reading, your child will be read with three times a week. They will focus on decoding, prosody and comprehension. Your child's reading book is matched appropriately to their phonics level.
Please aim to read with your child three times a week. This will support fluency, comprehension and expression.
In Handwriting, we will be looking at the correct formation of our letters and numbers. We will also be making our hand muscles nice and strong with our fine motor activities.
For this half term, our PE lessons will be indoors on Thursdays and outdoors on Fridays. Please make sure your child has their PE kit in school so they can get changed, as this helps to support their independence with dressing.

How you can help:
Please encourage your child to read their Collins E-book three times a week at home as well as completing their homework (which will be sent out after Christmas). New log-ins and passwords will be provided for the Collins Hub on the welcome meeting on the 8th September and in the back of children's reading diaries.
